A Gentle Approach to Understanding and Managing Anxiety & Low Mood

As a person-centred counsellor, I often sit with people feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or low mood.

Itโ€™s not just โ€œin your headโ€ - it affects your whole body, thoughts, and sense of self.

๐Ÿ’• Anxiety can feel like racing thoughts, tightness in the chest, or a constant state of "what if?".

๐Ÿ’• Low mood or depression often feels like a heaviness, numbness, or exhaustion from just getting through the day.

What I want you to know is thisโ€ฆ

These are valid emotional responses, not flaws. You're not broken.

It helps to gently tune in to what your mind and body are trying to tell you, rather than push the feelings away.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Maybe you could ask yourself: โ€œWhat do I need right now?โ€. Not what you โ€œshouldโ€ do, but what would help.

๐Ÿ‘‰ You could also try grounding techniques, like naming five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear... etc. This helps calm your nervous system.

๐Ÿ‘‰ And donโ€™t underestimate the power of small acts! Opening a window, stepping outside, or speaking to someone who listens without judgement.

You donโ€™t have to do it all at once. Healing happens moment by moment.

If anxiety or depression are impacting your daily life, you donโ€™t have to face it alone. My counselling and confidence coaching services in Bristol can help you to understand yourself better, develop tools to manage anxiety, and regain peace of mind. ๐Ÿ’™
